Headteacher's Welcome

Barton Park Primary opened in 2020. Our place within the heart of a new and developing community, with easy walking, cycle, and bus routes alongside plenty of green space, makes it a perfect location. Our modern building and fantastic on-site facilities—from bespoke play areas and well-equipped classrooms to our forest school site and neighbouring sports pavilion—create a truly special environment for children to learn and flourish.

We have high aspirations for all our children and ensure strong progress from every starting point. Our curriculum is designed to provide high-quality, rigorous, and engaging learning opportunities. Enquiry and oracy are central to our approach, underpinned by a solid foundation in key skills. We build on each child’s natural curiosity to help them become resilient, confident learners who can communicate their ideas clearly to both peers and adults. Quality teaching, targeted support, and enriching, open-ended learning opportunities—alongside carefully planned indoor and outdoor environments—allow all children to develop their thinking skills, independence, and individual talents.

Our six school values were chosen in collaboration with our school community: respect, kindness, equality, responsibility, perseverance, and curiosity. These values intentionally reflect both emotional and intellectual growth, and can be embraced by everyone within our diverse community and support our children in becoming future citizens.

Enrichment opportunities are a vital part of school life, ensuring our pupils benefit from the rich cultural capital surrounding us in Oxford and beyond. Trips, visitors, and workshops form a core part of our curriculum offer, with generous subsidies ensuring access for all families. We draw on specialist sport, music, and language teachers, and participate in city-wide events to give children opportunities to experience healthy competition, strive for excellence, build self-confidence, and broaden their social skills. Additionally, we offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities after school and at lunchtimes. We are also proud to have been part of the national free breakfast club trial, and we continue to offer both free and paid wraparound care for our school community.

We hope you find much to inspire you across our website, and we warmly encourage you to visit us to see our wonderful school in action.
